Event Description

Seattle Urban Permaculture Design Course

With Jenny Pell and Friends!

March - November 2013 - A 9-month program, one weekend each month

  •   50% hands-on learning and implementation during class
  •   PLUS two additional days each month hands-on skill-building and practice

COST:  $1,000 - $2,000 sliding scale for 40 days of lectures, classes and hands-on

In this unique urban permaculture design course we will complete the international certification program, learn and practice extensive and varied implementation strategies, and put our permaculture skills to work through three full seasons.

At the end of this 9-month expanded curriculum you will be able to move forward confidently with permaculture skills in:

  • Growing food in the city - annuals and perennials
  • Designing, building, and using a gray water system
  • Developing cottage industries from products we create and grow during class
  • Building arbors and trellises and using vertical growing spaces
  • Building soil fertility: compost, compost teas, hugelkultur, etc.
  • Seed saving
  • Making medicines
  • Putting up harvests
  • Applying permaculture on “the commons”
  • Documenting, showcasing, and sharing our work
  • Developing multi-stakeholder permaculture designs and negotiating with city officials
  • Navigating and influencing policy at different scales
  • Designing and implementing a neighborhood “permaculture corridor”
  • Learning and using outreach techniques, and working with diverse neighbors
  • Designing and managing a variety of edible forest garden “guilds”, including fruit and nut trees, hedgerows, berry patches, culinary herbs, bee forage and pollinator landscapes, wildlife habitat, etc.
  • Building resilient communities
  • And LOTS more!

This is a great class for beginners who want both theory and practice, and for permaculture course graduates who want to take their permaculture skills and practice much deeper.

Sample month:

Friday evening:
